FAQ
Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers
What types of research does AgroViSc conduct?
AgroViSc conducts multidisciplinary agricultural research covering pest and disease management, pesticide efficacy and bioassays, pest bio-ecology, agronomy and soil fertility management, socio-economics and agro-economics, farm establishment, and innovation platforms. Specific areas include analysis of physical and chemical properties of soil, water and plants; evaluation of farmers’ perceptions on pesticides and crop protection practices; biology and ecology of pests; assessment of land suitability for plantation establishment; isolation and identification of viruses infecting crops; and the socio-economic impact of agricultural innovations. Past funded research includes a bioecology study of urticating caterpillars on rubber (funded by CDC) and a study on vegetable farmers’ perceptions on pest management across three agro-ecological zones in Cameroon (funded by AVRDC – The World Vegetable Center).
How can I access seed/planting materials from AgroViSc?
AgroViSc’s Seed Systems arm (Agro Seeds) supplies clean, quality planting materials and seeds directly to clients, with a particular focus on smallholder farmers. Available materials include Traditional African Vegetables, plantain, maize, yam, beans, sweet potato, cocoyams, taro, and eru (Gnetum africana). Seeds go through multiplication, processing, packaging, and lab or on-farm testing before supply. To place an order or inquire about availability, contact AgroViSc directly by visiting our contact us page.
How does the Agro Financial Credit (AFC) scheme work?
The Agro Financial Credit (AFC) is the micro-financial arm of AgroViSc and is available to AgroViSc members only. It provides very soft and flexible loans to members, encourages savings, and recommends and supplies agricultural inputs to members at discounted rates. What makes AFC unique is that it integrates agriculture and financial services — farmers who take loans for agricultural projects are actively mentored and followed up on-farm or in the field. The scheme also includes extension and advisory services as well as access-to-market components, ensuring members get practical support beyond just financing.
Can AgroViSc consult for my farm or cooperative?
Yes. AgroViSc provides expert consultancy to smallholder farmers, cooperatives, research institutions, companies, and development organizations. Past consultancy work includes serving as consultant to RMF Foods for the production of plantain, banana, sweet potato and yam flour, providing statistical analysis support for over 28 M.Sc students from the University of Dschang and University of Buea, and consulting for farms and agro-entrepreneurs across Cameroon. Services cover pest and disease management, farm establishment, agronomy, soil fertility, and more. Reach out to us to discuss your specific needs.
How do I access published editions of the Agro-Digest?
AgroViSc has published 5 editions of the Agro-Digest, a quarterly bulletin that mines and simplifies research results for the public, covers agricultural innovations, highlights start-up enterprises, and gives experts a platform to share knowledge and success stories. To access copies, contact AgroViSc directly (Once the Publications & Resources page is live on this website, all editions will be available for download there.)
Does AgroViSc offer internship programs?
Yes. Capacity building and hands-on training are central to AgroViSc’s mission. The organization offers internships and practical training experiences for students and young people interested in agriculture and research. AgroViSc has previously trained students from multiple institutions across Cameroon on topics including rapid multiplication of plantains (PIF macropropagation technique), vegetable seed multiplication, processing and packaging, and research methods. AgroViSc is also working with stakeholders to establish CERPAGRI (Centre for Research and Practical Agriculture), a dedicated vocational agriculture and research training centre. To inquire about internship opportunities, contact us.
